Not to mention the Planet Pirates books by McCaffrey, Elizabeth Moon and Jodie Lynn Nye. Which leads me on to Elizabeth Moon' ... #23 The John Wyndham novel you were thinking of is The Chrysalids. It's a great book, I would highly recommend it (but then I love all the Wyndham books I've read so far).
As for Mel Gibson, he was yours to start with and we're only too happy to leave him to your tender mercies. 22. The Chrysalids by John Wyndham ... the genre (John Wyndham, the Foundation series etc) and I seem to have a fascination for post-apocalyptic settings (eg The Chrysalids).
What else should I be reading? The Chrysalids by John Wyndham In Grade 7 my English teacher started reading The Chrysalids by John Wyndham to our class - aloud - about half a chapter per day, in her lovely English/Ottawa Valley combo accent.
After a couple of weeks of this, she stopped and told us that if we wanted to learn how it ended, we'd have to ... ... of the Living Dead, so that's stuck in my head) but for post-apocalyptic (dystopian) reads you could try John Wyndham's The Chrysalids or The Day of the Triffids.
They're old, but still good. Harrison Bergeron is a story that's usually read in school around the same time as The Chrysalids is so that could be the source of your confusion. A couple to add.
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham a novel that focuses on physical human mutation, clash of unequal technologies, religious extremists and mythologization of the world as we know it now.

I've loved it and reread it many times since school. Part of what you describe reminds me of The Chrysalids but I don't think it matches your description fully enough.... ... post-apolalypse / dystopian novel and so it will only be a matter of time before I get to it.
How do you feel about The Chrysalids? by John Wyndam? I liked it a lot, but still haven't read his more famous work Day of the Triffids yet. ... my favourite novels and I always enjoy teaching it. We just recently finished it with my Grade 11 English class.

Another school read - this time with my English 10 Essentials class. This is a good novel but doesn't lend itself to multiple ... akenned5 - I've been rereading some Wyndham too, just finished The Trouble with Lichen and The Chrysalids and agree totally, his writing style is just wonderful. ... in French.... I was meaning to work on my French a bit this summer). I loved The Keeper of the Isis Light, and I liked The Chrysalids and A Wrinkle in Time too.

What about The Chrysalids by John Wyndham? Post-apocalypse, but still excellent. ... Christopher's books are a great recommendation. They're very well-written. John Wyndham has some great books too - The Chrysalids is my favourite.
My Grade 7 teacher was responsible. At the end of each class, she'd read part of a chapter of John Wyndham's The Chrysalids to us all. Then, about a third of the way through the book, she stopped - and said if we wanted to know how it ended, we could borrow it from the library ;-) Wicked ...
