Work detailsHeist Society by Ally Carter
Crime does pay. Ask these teens. If I could start over... ( )I liked it, alot. It's like the Ally Carter of old, funny, sweet, clever and very authentic. Plus the narrator was very solid. I'm sure this is being billed as an Ocean's Eleven for kids. It is definitely that kind of light enjoyable fluff. However, I actually saw more parallels to one of my favorite old movies, "How to Steal a Million." And it's not just the Audrey Hepburn look-alike on the cover. Like I said, definitely fluff, but also a lot of fun. (Aug. 2010) This book was REALLY good! Katarina (Kat) Bishop is trying to get away from the family business, but when her father becomes the ONLY suspect in the theft of 5 painting from a very bad man, she is forced to dive back in. With the help of HUNKY Hale and several other teenagers, she has to break into an ultra-secure facility, and steal the paintings back. This was REALLY cute! Kat was an interesting character who I wanted to get to know better, and Hale.... I don't think I want to know his first name as much as Kat does, but I'm up there... :) He is SOOOOO in love with her! It's freaking adorable! I wish one of them would just get up the nerve to kiss the other, then—BAM!—they'd be a couple! I'm excited for the sequel! I'm on the waiting list at the library! :) Now if only Ally would write another Gallagher Girls book! :P Eh. Maybe I read too many YA novels, but this one didn't hold my interest as much as others have. I was intrigued by the baby thieves plot device, but it didn't feel like the author fully fleshed out the characters, and that was the most disappointing. I couldn't get invested in any of the characters. Also, the art the author mentioned was imagined. I understand that it's easier to invent works of art than have to research and explain actual pieces but ugh. I went online to look up photos of the paintings so I could try and see it in my head while reading and everything was fake. No thanks!
This is a thoroughly enjoyable, cinema-ready adventure, and the details of thieving tools and techniques, lavish settings, and cast of eccentric characters, including possible spies and love interests, all add texture and depth to the action.
No descriptions found. A group of teenagers uses their combined talents to re-steal several priceless paintings and save fifteen-year-old Kat Bishop's father, himself an international art thief, from a vengeful collector. (summary from another edition) |
