None. Still love to read Linnea Sinclair; but her best book is An Accidental Goddess. ( )Amazon preorder I always like Linnea Sinclair and this was right on target. Good three dimensional characters, although I wouldn't have minded a little more exploration of Kaidee's early life. I particularly liked that neither character ignored the fact that they were in imminent danger to boink and emote endlessly. Not that there wasn't adequate emotional story arc intertwined with character/relationship arc, but it didn't suffer from the "people, get a grip, they're trying to kill you" that romance novels sometimes suffer from. I guessed two big reveals toward the end, but that was ok and organic to the plot. We see some characters from previous books toward the end, but I don't think you need to have read the previous books to enjoy this one. It felt a little slow/long in places, and maybe could have used a little tightening, or a little less repetition of some of the key backstory, but all in all a very nice book. Not as good as the other books of Sinclair that I've read. For me it moved too slowly. And somehow the story did not seem as full as the other books in the series, following from Gabriel's Ghost. I'm not sure why it was a little disappointing. Devin Guthrie isn't the livewire of the family. He's more the staid, dependable numbers guy. But when his nephew disappears leaving a murdered bodyguard, and his family's response is to pressure him to marry for political reasons, he's had enough. And when he sees Captain Makaiden Griggs again he realizes slipping away to track down nephew Trip may be the best decision he's ever made. The further adventures of the Guthrie family - if you haven't already read Gabriel's Ghost, Shades of Dark and Hope's Folly it may make more sense to start there, but this is enough of a standalone for solo reading should the earlier books not be available. Computer/data expert Devin Guthrie is called to the Guthrie Global Systems headquarters by his tyrannical father, J.M. With the defection of his oldest son Philip to the Alliance, J.M. wants to do damage control within the Empire and he figures a prominent marriage will help. Then tragedy strikes when Devin's nephew Trip disappears. Devin heads out to track him down -- just one step ahead of the imperial forces. Pilot Makaiden Griggs is widowed and deeply in debt. Having worked for the Guthries, Makaiden recognizes Trip when she spots him on Dock Five station. When Devin arrives in hot pursuit, they're all thrust into a deadly game of hide and seek. no reviews | add a review
