Imagine an exercise that works every major and minor muscle group, burns 600 calories an hour, builds balance and flexibility, requires no investment beyond $25 to $35, and makes you feel exuberant, delightful, sassy, and sexy. And is so much more like play than work that you want to keep doing it. That's right, what goes around comes around--the Hula-Hoop, which burst into fad-dom fifty years ago, is hot all over again, but this time for enormously beneficial reasons. Christabel Zamor, credited with reviving the Hula-Hoop with her HoopGirl Workout, is leading what Time magazine calls "the inventive new wave of fitness...that is catching on in health clubs across America." Hooping brings the best of HoopGirl into a full-color, fully illustrated book plus a 40-minute instructional DVD. Here's how to get started--where to find and how to use the larger, heavier "sticky" hoops; stretches and warm-ups; and what to wear. And then more than 50 step-by-step exercises that focus on the core (abs, back, butt), upper body, lower body, and overall well-being. The exercises are as fun as they sound--Limbo, Booty Blitz, Float Up, Wildwest--and each group comes with a recommended playlist of music, plus "challenges" for going further. Hooping!: it's not just fitness, but metamorphosis, into a renewed you, with a strong core, joyful attitude, and a glow of self-confidence.… (more)

This book is a visual guide to doing Hula Hooping as a fitness program. I discovered that some people use hooping for stress relief. Hooping can help backs heal because it strengthens the core muscles in the lower back and around the spine. Ms. Zamor presents the information in a fun, easy style. There were many resources and a few recipes included in this book. I think it is a good reference for this type of fitness program. ( )

For a book on working out, Christabel Zamor promises hooping is fun and she wasn't kidding. The book offers many colorful pictures on what you can do with your hoop and comes with a video.

At the beginning she says, "The hoop gives everyone permission to be raucous, like they've been let out for recess."

It's so true. I don't really laugh when I'm exercising. I just watch the clock to see how long it will take for this to be over. With hooping, I was laughing. I even felt silly and young which is a great feeling when you haven't been young for a while.

For as much fun as I had, the next day I woke up feeling muscles that I didn't even know I worked out. I felt like I had been playing, rather badly because I'm not good at hooping, but just trying all the workouts gave me a good workout.

I woke thinking, "I want to do this again today," instead of the usual, "Well, I worked out yesterday so I can take today off."

This is so much fun. I recommend this to anyone who deals with stress, or is easily exhausted. You will find yourself having a good time, laughing and you won't even feel like you're working out. As for the exhaustion, even my first attempt at hooping filled me with a great deal of energy.

This is a great book to have. ( )
