Work detailsRalph the Heir by Anthony Trollope (1871)
None. I don't think I agree with Trollope's assessment of this as one of his worst novels, but it's definitely not in the top ranks. On the plus side, there's some interest in the political plot (which echoes Trollope's own experience of running unsuccessfully for Parliament), and there are several good character studies; on the minus side, the plot threads never seem to hang together well, and the love stories are frankly uninteresting. Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0192818058, Paperback)Published in 1871, this novel tells a tale of crossed inheritance in which one Ralph Newton, a handsome ne'er-do-well, fully expects to inherit his family fortune, while his deserving cousin (also Ralph Newton), a bastard in the eyes of the law, cannot legally inherit what his father wishes to bequeath to him. Featuring the darker hues and confident social criticism of Trollope's maturity, this work presents a stunning portrait of the Victorian legal scene.(retrieved from Amazon Tue, 19 Apr 2011 16:02:09 -0400) No library descriptions found. |
