A cat story for the animal rights crowd. Ho-hum, Ho-kum. Being a cat lover myself, I read it when I didn't have anything better to do. After reading it, it seems I hit upon the right way to treat it. ( )

Nice to read. I like Icebear the cat, especially since my own kitty is also white (a lot more shy though LOL). What I did not like was Amory's 'name dropping' about all the famous people he knows. Maybe I am sour, but that irritated me a little. Of course I do like his persistent protection of animals and especially the protection of baby seals.

A lot of the stories are very familiar for everyone who ever owned a cat! ( )

I absolutely loved this hilarious book! It’s probably the best book about cat psychology that I’ve ever read. Make that heard – as I listened to Allen Sklar do a terrific job on the audio (CD) of this book. Along with the story of Mr. Amory’s beloved white cat, he presented us with cat facts aplenty on which to ponder. He also brought into the story many of the episodes of animal activism in which he engaged during his life. He was quite an interesting fellow.

The only two things I didn’t particularly like about this book were its title (I thought the book was going to be about a cat as a Christmas present) and the cat’s eventual name (I would have picked something different - although I’d already thought of such possibilities as Chairman Meow and Santa Claws). Other than that, I found the rest of the book just perfect. The author describes the cat’s personality exactly right. Truly, the cat is an animal of independent means and uses man to his best interest - as the author so aptly points out. I’d recommend this book mostly for cat lovers as I don’t think that others could tolerate so many details about a cat’s personality. ( )

2176 The Cat Who Came for Christmas, by Cleveland Amory (read 25 Dec 1988) This book is a little too artsy, and tells of a white stray the author adopted in about 1978. I think he colors the truth somewhat. ( )

This is the classic true story of a man who rescued a stray that became part of his life. It's not my favorite real-life cat story, but it's a good story and worth a read. It's certainly humorous at parts, and enjoyable throughout (and yes, touching). ( )
