44. The Ghost Writer by Phillip Roth Just finished Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell and gave it to my dad who started it.
Now I'm reading Into the Wild. I meant to read it after seeing the movie last year, so far it is great. I'm not sure if these fit with the beliefs of your church or not, but my small group liked Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell and is currently reading Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller. My church is Methodist. 7. Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell. I read this for my Bible study. I liked the substance of the book but was occasionally annoyed by his style--it seemed like he was trying too hard to be cool. If you're a liberal Christian, this is probably a good book for you. It also has interesting background ... ... Cataclysms

So here's the list:
1. Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith by Rob Bell
Interesting book, but really poorly written and formatted. It had a lot of potential, but the poor editing nearly ... ... Mrs. Charles E. Cowman - I love this devotional. Very useful for getting through difficult times.
261 Social Theology - Velvet Elvis:Repainting the Christian Faith by Rob Bell - Interesting if you can get past the horrendous formatting and slightly poor writing.
280 Christian Denominations ... #6 lol, no it doesn't mean that. Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith is a book by Rob Bell talking about the direction he thinks modern Christianity should move. It's an interesting read though I have to admit that the way it was formatted (pick up a copy and flip through it and you'll ... Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith - Rob Bell ... I just finished reading Velvet Elvis, and I enjoyed it. As I am processing some of Bell's points, I have a few questions that I would love to hear responses to. First, while he says he is a Trinitarian and believes in the virgin birth, what ... ... have issues with the book are expecting it to be something it is not."
I've seen people get sooo up-in-arms about Velvet Elvis! But, really, it's just "one man's story of his spiritual journey", as you said.
Thanks!
<>< Mizbooks ... this subject that has been closed due to the pressure of being labeled "heretical". I think Rob Bell put it best in Velvet Elvis: "God has spoken. The rest is just commentary." If we would just admit that a lot of this stuff we are just trying to figure out and it is all just working ... Velvet Elvis is my all time favorite non-fiction book, barely edging out Blue Like Jazz. ;) I've talked random people in B&N into buying it... (And God bless you, sir, for owning not only Blue Like Jazz but Velvet Elvis! May this young lady point out that you ROCK! ;)) ... right, we definately need to be careful with what we read, esp. if contrary to scripture.
from what i remember of Velvet Elvis it was his style of writing that had me confused. just state it plain, man! lol
monica I'm re-reading this right now....
This book is absolutely amazing. I love that Rob writes with honesty and rawness. He doesn't pussy-foot around issues... he speaks clearly of his doubts & questions about faith. And, I wish more people would be like that. Stop with the masks... just be real!
