I stopped reading Father Brown because it became too repetitive. Now I'm well into The Night Watch by Sarah Waters. Some pages are very disturbing, but the story and the writing is gripping. A very striking book, for the moment.

The Innocence of Father Brown - G. K. Chesterton The Wisdom of Father Brown - id. Both of these books were parts of a "Father Brown" Omnibus I picked at the library. And both can't be satisfyingly summed up because they are collections of short stories. Let just say that they all deal ...

#186 That sounds very like the Father Brown omnibus I just finished after about 2 years of reading. Great for dipping into between novels but not really something I think anyone would want to read all in one go (I just kept wishing for him to stove in the villain's head with a cosh now and then) ...

... hard science, with a lot of concepts that left me puzzled. After all this computer talk, I decided to read the lighter Father Brown omnibus that I borrowed from the library. I like it, but I suspect that 1000+ pages of Father Brown will be too much for me. He's delightful, but he's no Hercul ...

... I'm finding it a bit much so I think I'll alternate the books in that with the books of Father Brown stories included in The Complete Father Brown. That brings the TBR pile down to 74. I have read them before, but I can't remember why I put them in the TBR pile to re-read.

... it is a lot of fun and a nice "cozy" read just for fun. Have you read anything else by Chesterton? I highly recommend the Father Brown stories. One of my favorite books by Chesterton is The Man Who Was Thursday, which is a very fantastical tale with lots of twists and turns and a point ...

#17 Miss marple is sort of in the style of Chesterton's Father Brown - having seen so much of the world they have a very good feel for the liklihood of people to do evil, even though they themselves are almost completely 'pure'. She knits and gardens and watches people around her very closely. ...
