Loading... Deception Pointby Dan Brown
Excellent hard to put down book. Only Brown book better has Tom Hanks playing the lead. ( )Good yarn Who done it in the Arctic 2005 One evening, after exploring the natural and man-made wonders of Cappadocia, my solitary musings were interrupted, with some frequency, by the spirited reading of the choicest excerpts of Deception Point. The reader, a fellow traveler, simply could not savor the vapid, vacuous and utterly charmless prose of Dan Brown alone. Given the laughs which ensued, I'm glad he refused to spare the rest of us. But then, my dear reader, that does not mean that you should not spare yourself. Rubbish A fast-paced gripping story only Dan Brown could write. Perfect plot, no nonsense characters, would keep you at the edge of your seat. Another author that's style is predictable, but they are still fun along the way. Predictable, already-been done thriller that keeps you reading for some reason. Very high in tension and descriptiveness, and as usual Dan Brown makes perfect scientific sense in fiction. The high seas rescue was pretty awesome too. Good read, it was fun. Dan Brown a master of thrillers and this one does not disappoint at all. I was at the edge of my seat through the whole book. Betrayal in Washington is a dangerous thing and have to watch your back. Another excellent work by Brown. Imagine the Da Vinci code set in Washington DC and NASA instead of the Holy Grail. Some will find fault with the characters development, or lack thereof. I thought it was brilliant with regards to the overall story as this is a grabber from the get go and happens so very, very fast. The reader really can't afford to get bogged down by the characters' histories. From the mid point of the book this thing moves at a break neck pace. Have been feeling a bit under the weather, so needed to read some trash, so bought a job lot of Dan Brown from the charity shop. To be fair, this one is actually pretty good, a reasonable conspiracy thriller, page turner etc. It's also not as badly written as Da Vinci code. This best of Dan Brown's books. It is a great page turner with many twists and turns, i really enjoyed the tense fast flying action of the book and it didn't take long to read! A great holiday book because it is very readable. OK but not as good as A & D A superb book, full of great ideas that is fast paced and twist and turns at every available moment. The book is well researched and therefore is almost believeable. However the major problem with the book is i am afraid Dan Brown. His writing style just plain annoys me, this reads like an unfinished movie script. If someone else had written this, it would be an epic, however with the authors style it is just plain average. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! Faced paced, hard to put down, exciting, thrilling... a roller coaster of a ride. High-techy and political this book is by far better then any of his previous works. Yes, blasphemy I know, but true nonetheless. Can't wait to see how Hollywood messes this one up. Screw all you haters out there. Plenty of action, research, and fact. This man has become a favored of mine quicker then any other author in my library. And I've got quite a few favored. Thank you, Dan, for the countless hours of fun. Reads like a bad Hollywood movie. Nevertheless this is the best of Brown's work. Like all the rest, the research is terribly poor, and the plot is not well thought through - you can guess where its going, whilst knowing full well that the type of conspiracy imagined would never have left the tortured mind of a junior aide, because it is so obviously going to backfire. But if you suspend disbelief you might possibly manage to enjoy this one. In Brown's defense, he writes accesible prose that carries a reader into the action despite the terrible plots. Ok, to start with I belong to the Angels and Demons is better than The Davinci Code camp. You know where I stand. Deception point, is a clever, although formulaic thriller, deeply rooted in science-fact as per Brown's other work. This novel is an action packed story, full of twists and suspense that you'd probably expect. You'll be able to guess where the plot goes throughout the novel and turn your nose up and the pointless love interest, but there's still some very good suspense, and the predictability of the direction of the novel does not detract from it's overall impact. The final action scene was brilliantly choreographed, a masterpiece of cause and effect. Initally a "samey" feel, yet after a quarter of the book you'll be hooked and won't put it down until it's all over. Having started to read this just to find out if it was annoying as his other books I was amazed to get to page 217 before encountering the absurd brand name details that had been so jarring in other novels. And although the characters are as shallow as ever only a couple topple into outright caricature. The pace of the writing is hectic but engaging. I know little of US politics, geology, or marine biology so it may be that such ignorance is bliss (rather than my impatience with the historical and religious inconsistencies of The Da Vinci Code). As it was, this silly novel entertained me thoroughly for a few hours. Okay, so I'd read The Da Vinci Code and liked it okay, and I read Angels and Demons and really liked it. I majored in Art History and Classical Civilization, so I dug discussion about art and ancient societies. I had no problem suspending disbelief for either of those books. Deception Point was no different. It's got an incredibly complex and entirely impossible plot, the characters aren't the sort of people I'd want anything to do with in real life - the Senator and his assistant were so cartoony that I almost got frustrated with them. Dan Brown also has this annoying habit of dragging you 1/3 of the way into the book before he tells you what's going on. I would have put the damn thing down if I hadn't thought "I've invested so much time into this book...I'm interested enough to continue even though I'm frustrated and frankly pissed off at the book." But...that's how Dan Brown keeps people reading, I guess. I did enjoy this book. I whipped through all 580+ pages in about three days. Like all of his books, they're excellent for people who want to read a little here, a little there. The story is engaging and the chapters are short, the story is complex but there aren't many characters, and it is easy to follow. Most of the characters are 2-d and predictable, but that just makes it easier to follow the intricate plot. Good book! It moved along well and I liked the tech! This book was full of action and get me hooked the entire way. It was interesting and had a great ending. Another good book by Dan Brown. Evan P. read this after the Da Vinci Code and loved it, want to own it Gripping read. Complex plotting, high adventure and some unexpected twists. As always it is well researched - you actually learn something as you read it. The learning however doesn't in any way get in the way of the story. Had even more impact for me having read the author's note at the beginning - "The Delta Force, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Space Frontier Foundation are real organisations. All technologies described in this novel exist". Wow! |
