The Reformation by Diarmaid MacCulloch is a terrific, thorough review of the end of the period (it begins in 1490) and the beginning of the Renaissance.

... two active and opposing trends right now: secularization (for example in Europe), and fundamentalism. My impression from The Reformation by Diarmaid MacCulloch is that the Reformation is still playing out in the US. Interesting times!

So, if I've only read The Reformation by Diarmaid MacCulloch what am I missing? I realize that this question is probably far too big. Feel free to confine yourselves to book recommendations or whatever short comments seem apposite.

... is very good, if rather dense for the non-academic. As an introduction, I would recommend Diarmaid MacCulloch's Reformation, but that isn't specifically about Germanty, of course.
