This Bible surprised me. It is one of the best devotional study Bibles I've ever seen. It has the usual center column notes, great notes, many by Martin Luther, and great sidebars and historical notes. But the thing I enjoy most are the prayers that accompany every short topic section in the scriptures. It makes a prayerful study and reading. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
First words
Whoever believes and holds to Christ's Word, heaven stands open to him, hell is shut, the devil is imprisoned, sins are forgiven, and he is a child of eternal life. That is what this book teaches you -- the Holy Scripture -- and no other book on earth.
Quotations
If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also along with him, graciously give us all things?  Romans 8:31-32

Disambiguation notice
There are two different works called the Lutheran Study Bible. An ESV version (associated with the more conservative Missouri Synod) and an NRSV version (associated with the more liberal Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). Please do not combine them.
The biblical texts are not that different (both the ESV and NRSV are revisions of the 1952 King James RSV) other than in the choice to use or not use gender neutral language, but the study material certainly is.
