Wonderful story, contrasting a rosy view of Britain in the 60s (caftans, drugs, Carnaby Street, the World Cup etc) with a sinister plot to undermine the imminent American Moon landing by an insane British mage who got to the Moon back in the 50s by magic. Richard Jesperson, agent of the super-secret 'Club', joins forces with Agent Whitney Gauge, of 'an' FBI (i.e. not the standard one) to ensure the Americans land. The irony is that, if they land, the Americans will take away the mythical power of the Moon, and also sterilise the sense of wonder that powers scientific exploration and science fiction itself. So, alongside all the daft adventures and in-jokes about the 60s, there is a message here. Even the title makes sense in a number of ways. ( ) no reviews | add a review
