Important pictures of the Allied movement into Continental Europe to drive the Axis forces back into Germany. Hastings provides a general commentary to the assorted color photos. This commentary is slightly slanted toward the British interpretation of events. For example, Operation Market Garden is given to the reader as an unfortunate Allied plan of poor execution not as a plan by Montgomery himself. This is nothing harmful, in itself. Just not the unglossed truth. The Second World War is accepted by Hastings as a crusade and "holy war" that has been born out by world history in the West. ( )
