I've been slowly working through Jodi Thomas's Whispering Mountain series as I've had the yearning for some good Western historicals. I was looking forward to this one and it didn't disappoint. Sage is the only girl and the youngest of the McMurray's. She's had bad luck in the romance department and has decided to become a doctor and ignore men. However, Drum Roak has known her since he was a scrawny teenager and is determined to make her his own. First, he has to show her that he's grown up (he's about three years younger than Sage which she constantly uses as a weak defense against being involved with him).
Both Sage and Roak are great old Western characters, full of sass and adventure. And there's plenty of adventure. There's a sweet secondary romance with nurse Bonnie and her cowboy. And we get to see more of the McMurray family and how they're progressing with children and life. ( )

I loved this book. This book is about Sage who was rasied by her 3 brothers. She met Drummond years ago and still sees him as a boy. Drummond has been in love with Sage since he first met her even though he's a few years younger than her. He's only problem is getting her to belive that he's the man for her.
Drummond goes off to become a Texas Ranger and Sage goes off to become a doctor, and widow. She gets kidnapped and Drummond comes to her rescuse. This story is about a man finally learning what love really means and a woman willing to give him a chase.

The hero in this story is so wonderful.

Drummond Roak, the title character in author Jodi Thomas' "The Lone Texan", is a man determined to win the heart of the contrary, fiery, and beautiful woman whom he has loved since he was fifteen years old. That woman is Sage McMurray, slightly older than Drum, and newly returned to Texas from a five-year stay in Boston, MA. During that time, Sage fulfilled her dream of becoming a doctor. She also married and soon became the widow of her much-older mentor. Accompanying Sage as her nurse and assistant is Bonnie Pierce, a tall, plain spinster. When Drum hears that Sage has returned, he seeks her out, and they have an eventful reunion which is made even more complex when Sage is kidnapped by a villain who is pure evil. Drum comes to her rescue, by being the highest bidder for her at an outlaw's auction, and the sparks between the two really start to fly! "The Lone Texan" has a great hero whom we get to know in-depth by his personal thoughts and his love for his one and only woman, who takes a mighty heap of convincing before her heart is truly won. There is also a very sweet and satisfying story of wall-flower Bonnie coming into full bloom with a rescue romance of her own! The characters of Sage and Drum became known in other entries in Jodi Thomas' "Whispering Mountain" series, and at last they have their own wonderful western romance! ( )
