2952 Voices from the Great War, by Peter Vansittart (read 5 Feb 1997) This book consists of snatches of things about the war, selected by Vansittart; poetry, things said, etc., from before the war starts till after it ends--1914 to 1919. It was well put together, but not overly memorable or new. There are many poignant quotes, but I am continually impressed by Rupert Brooks's amazing words "Now, God be thanked Who has matched us with His hour" etc. Just such an unimaginable sentiment, but so telling as to a view one could not imagine a worldly-wise person with foresight expressing: yet it seems so true.
