Loading... H.L. Mencken on Religionby H. L. Mencken
None. When Mencken lets loose his pen on the subject of religion, fur will fly. He pulls very few punches, and even when he describes religious people favorably, you always have the sense there is an ironic edge to his words. The scary thing about this book is how easily it could have been written today, with only a few name changes. His arguments remain cogent and relevant even with the passage of 3 generations. One gets the sneaking suspicion he would not be at all surprised at the presidency of George W. Bush, or the fact that Michelle Bachman, Mike Huckabee, and Rick Perry are all considered viable candidates for president. ( )no reviews | add a review
