IT'S SPRING, DEAR DRAGON makes me smile. It's a book for kindergarten level readers and it's simple See Spot Run sentences evoke the warm fuzzies for me.

Oh, yes!
I see something.
Something little and green.

To which mom responds with:

The little green things
will get big and pretty.
You will see.

Classic Dick and Jane stuff.

The book might have only gotten 3 STARS from me except for the artwork. If you expand upon what the artist has included, you will be able to talk about Spring in terms of growing flowers, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, and Robins with their migration patterns.

Not bad for a book with only 240 words.

Didn't win a Caldecott, but a useful primer. ( )
