In this installment Jo is unhappily employed as a weathergirl at a fourth-rate Florida tv station and saddled with her newly divorced sister. She's suspected of weather-tampering and missing her djinn lover, David, who is confined to his bottle trying to heal from the damage he sustained during their Las Vegas fiasco. And that's just for starters. The truce between the Wardens and the djinn is deteriorating quickly, and a battle between the two powerful forces could spell disaster for the entire world. Joanne unwillingly is drawn into the thick of the fray, facing an unthinkable choice between her love for David and the future of humanity.

Caine ups both the pace and the stakes in the fourth entry in the stellar Weather Wardens novels, one of my favorite paranormal series. Joanne is as appealing as ever, and the revelation that the future of both the djinn and the Wardens -- indeed, of perhaps the whole world -- is at stake underscores both her strength and vulnerability.

Joanne is a sympathetic and likable heroine precisely because she is unflinchingly honest with herself and more than willing to acknowledge her own failings. Colorful supporting characters, including her fellow bikini-clad weathergirl, Cherise, lighten this thundercloud of a novel, but on the whole it's the darkest, most enthralling and most powerful entry yet in this series. The fourth Weather Warden novel had big shoes to fill as the follow up to the impressive, heart-stopping third novel, “Chill Factor”. There was no way for this story to have been more fun or well done than that one. That’s the excuse I am going to use for this review of “Windfall” and its not too shabby four star rating. Joanne Baldwin is now a weather girl for a local TV. station. She has to wear goofy costumes and act silly while working with a weather forecaster who seems to be manipulating the weather to match his predictions. To add to her new life, Joanne’s newly divorced sister Sarah has moved in and the love of her life David has gone from djinn to freaky and scary ifrit. Unfortunately, David is sucking away all of Jo’s powers and she can’t so much as cause a breeze to go by. Soon Jo is caught in a war that appears to be going on between two factions of djinn. Weather Wardens are falling like flies in the wake of this djinn war. Although there is action galore, “Windfall” just wasn’t’ as good as “Chill Factor”. Caine introduces several new characters, including a good friend for Jo, her sister, and her sister’s new beau. Unfortunately, the most interesting new addition leaves half way through the story and I felt like I was missing something important. A brief mention of his name at the end of the story only added to my confusion. There are several genuine surprises and even some laugh aloud moments but the fifth book seems destined to be even darker than “Windfall”. I love the twists and the plot and where the tale is going, I just think Caine missed the mark just a tad with this volume. I can say though, that like its predecessors, this book leaves me definitely wanting more! ( )

Joanne has abandoned the weather wardens and is now working as a weather girl when her sister turns up on her doorstep. There's also a Las Vegas cop stalking her, her djinn boyfriend is dying and the war between the djinn and the wardens is about to begin.
Joanne and her sister annoyed me towards the start of this, mainly for their trusting natures and the fact that although they were both pretty much broke it was somehow okay to go designer label shopping. That aside, I enjoyed it. Joanne is once again swept up in events not of her making and though I'd like she and David to catch a break, the soap-operaness of escalating disasters hooks me.

This was another amazing story from Rachel Caine. She is a very talented author, this stories have an amazing amount of action. It is like having three or four stories running at one time, although, I never find myself lost in the grand scheme of things. I love the relationship between Joanne and David, and I am so ready for the problems to calm in their area. They have deserved a happily ever after. Eamon and Joanne sister was a breath of fresh air for this book. I am anxious to see what happens in the arena. The ending of this book had be itching for the next book. I can not wait to see what becomes of the new characters. ( )

How far the mighty Weather Warden has fallen. Instead of saving the world Joanne is now the weather girl on TV wearing everything from a yellow slicker to a foam rubber sun (and don't even get her started on the bikini). It doesn't help that her essence is being sucked dry by her dijin boyfriend or that her now divorced sister has moved in. However, it's just a matter of time before fate finds Joanne and saving the world is once again on the agenda.

Windfall is another exciting installment in the Weather Warden series and I've been enjoying them immensely. I think I'm going to have a bit of withdrawal once I finish book five. ( )

I kept trying to tell myself, you've survived worse than this, but it didn't seem to be working. Any second now, I was going to scream and kill somebody, not necessarily in that order... You've been through worse. Yep. I had. It just didn't feel like it, right at the moment.
