Good stories with The Doctor alone, with Martha, and with Donna. Lots of shout-outs to the original series (specifically Tom Baker and Leela). The illustration of the first story was not to my liking, but the others were well drawn. All the stories were good overall and all seemed to capture the patter and spirit of Tennant's Doctor. A nice read for Doctor Who fans. ( )

Meh... there was only one or two stories I liked in this volume. The graphics in the first one were horrible. The story lines in the majority of them were okay. Still hate Donna but love Tennant even in cartoon form. ( )

Though I like Doctor Who comics a lot, I don't like the writing of Gary Russell or Tony Lee, so I've avoided IDW's comic book output for the most part, finally picking up this book, a collection of six standalone stories. Of course, it contains a story by each of them, but I suppose there's only so much you can do.

Doctor Who's predilection for the weird and the strange means it is particularly suited for the limitless visuals of the comic book medium, and its ability to switch styles with every story also means comics are a good match for it, as you can change the art along with the storytelling every time out. There's two standout stories, and both manage to do this. The lead story, "The Whispering Gallery," looks utterly fantastic thanks to Ben Templesmith but Leah Moore and John Reppion also manage to tell a nice little heartbreaking story. Rich Johnston and Eric J's "Room with a Deja View," plays with time in a way that only a comic book could, but it's not just clever, it's good, too.

A few of the stories are just so-so: John Ostrander's writing in "Autopia" disappoints in that it's just your normal robot-becoming-sentient and overthrowing-the-oppressors story, though Kelly Yates's art is nice. And though Gary Russell's story "Cold-Blooded War" is mostly about feminist tropes that would have seemed dated in the 1970s, Adrian Salmon's art is always nice to look at. "Black Death White Life," on the other hand, was utterly baffling, though it did feature some fantastic visual imagery.

Worst of all, though, was "The Time Machination." In its mere 24 pages, Tony Lee manages references to Timelash, The Time Machine, "The Unquiet Dead," "Boom Town," "Tooth and Claw," "Army of Ghosts," "Rose," Ghost Light, a couple Torchwood episodes, Shada, "Bad Wolf," The Talons of Weng-Chiang, and "Silence in the Library." Unfortunately, he doesn't quite manage an interesting story, realistic dialogue, or characterization, but I suppose you can't have everything.

a nice half-dozen Tenth Doctor stories, originally published as separate comics and here as a single volume by IDW. I really bought it to read the first story, "The Whispering Gallery", which is by Leah and John, and am glad to say that I enjoyed it and most of the others (the exception being a typically cliched cute robot story in the middle). The standout, however, is Tony Lee's "The Time Machination", featuring Ten teaming up with H.G. Wells against Torchwood, with lots of other pleasing references to both New and particularly Old Who. Lee's The Forgotten was also excellent, and I shall look out for more of his work. And the collection as a whole is excellent value. ( )
