Since 1959, The Second City has been a Chicago landmark, a comedy theater launching the careers of - well, possibly dozens of famous comics. Here is a loving history of the theater and its denizens over the years, and a couple of CDs of some of the performances. Ed Asner worked here. So did Jerry Stiller, Alan Arkin, Mike Nichols and Elaine May. So did Anne Meara, George Segal, Paul Sand, and Avery Schreiber. So did Peter Boyle, George Wendt, Bonnie Hunt, Alan Alda and John Candy. So did Joan Rivers, David Steinberg, Robert Klein and John Belushi. So did Harold Ramis, Dan Akroyd, Gilda Radner and Betty Thomas. So did Bill Murray, Martin Short, Jim Belushi and Shelley Long. So did Mike Myers, Chris Farley, and Rick Moranis. Second City rules! In addition, there are two CD compilations of comic bits and pieces from the theater's history. The stories and memories from the cast and creators are funny, surreally charming and occasionally touching. ( )no reviews | add a review
