None. All of Piper's biographical sketches are pearl. The conference version is available for streaming or download as MP3 for free at the Desiring God website. ( )This is a German translation titled, Standhaft im Leiden: John Bunyan, William Cowper, David Brainerd This book rode out a trying personal storm. I'm so thankful for Piper's thoughtful approach to the lives and suffering of the lives of suffering that he chronicled here. This book truly helped me keep my eyes on the cross in my time of suffering. This book has a good message, but is somewhat difficult to read. Through suffering Bunyan gave us The Pilgram's Progress and other works of edification, Cowper gave us great hymns of solace, and Brainerd reached many native Americans for Christ and inspired many for missions. Most Americans have lost the art and joy of suffering for Christ. I enjoyed this book because it reminded me that God does not just want me to be happy because I am healthy or wealthy. He wants me to be happy in Him, regardless of how much health or wealth He gives me. Bunyan spent years in prison, Cowper suffered from debilitating depression and Brainerd had severe health problems. Yet the Lord gave all three of them the grace to have a measure of true happiness, but in Him alone and not anything else. no reviews | add a review
