Failed philosopher tries to do a good job in his second-choice career as clockmaker, even though he's well aware that no-one appreciates what he does. An engaging situation, but it doesn't really go anywhere, other than to give Hermans a pretext for a lot of fairly random speculation about the nature of time, circularity, and so on. ( )

Hermans is helaas over zijn top heen; matige plot
