It is an unusual example of a classic locked-room mystery, and is placed in two settings, Oxford and an English country house. The villain is chillingly devious, and in the first part commits what could well be the perfect murder. Detective Inspector Buller of Oxford solves the crime, but there is no evidence to bring charges. Buller leaves the police force and goes to spend some time at a friend's country estate. More mayhem ensues. The second part of the novel features elements of an action adventure (complete with car chase), more exploration of the locked-room mystery, and an engaging romance. The characters are well drawn, and - as one would expect from TH White - the book is well written and enjoyable to read. no reviews | add a review

The plot is well designed, the most interesting part being, in my opinion, the fact that the murderer is revealed almost at the beginning. What follows is a series of quick unpredictable events, which lead to the climax of the book and the interesting conclusion.
Highly recommended. (
