I recently picked up Summer of my German Soldier by Bette Greene. It's a good thing that I didn't read that when I was eleven like everyone else because I would've been about five ... Thanks to Summer of My German Soldier I feel a bit choked up every time I think of Egyptian cotton. Even re-reading it after a number of years, I *still* bawled like a baby. When I was in elementary school/junior high, I loved the book The Drowning of Stephan Jones by Bette Greene. The main character is a pretty good example of a young teenage girl who is easily swayed by her peers against her better judgement. Her boyfriend "terrorizes" (for lack of a better ... Summer Of My German Soldier - Bette Green ... his hand and said the same thing. After this happened with several books, and after a few kids mocked the life out of Summer of my German Soldier, she gave up and just let us choose our own books, as long as we were reading.

Summer of my German Soldier was pretty big when I was in high school. Everyone read it at some point. Might have been a quirk of my high school though because it wasn't ... Oh I loved reading Summer of my German soldier when I was younger. ... at my P.O. Box via BookMooch.
I also picked up 2 YA novels on the 95 cent clearance table at the book store for myself, Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene and You Can't Fall for your Step-Sister by Ann Bryant.
Lastly (on the 95 cent table again) I picked up another copy ... ... in the way! I did just finish another book, however, a YA novel I started reading at school. (I am a teacher.)

The book was ok, but the ending was disappointing - too many things left unresolved. I wonder if there's a ... #279 - Summer of My German Soldier is a great book! I enjoyed it very much.
I haven't had much time to read this week. I'm currently reading Elantris and Wings to the Kingdom by Cherie Priest. I finally started Summer of my German Soldier today, and even though I'm only about 35 pages into it I want to beat the snot out of both the mother and the father! Poor little kid.
}:o( I just came home with The Haunting of Hill House and The Summer of My German Soldier, which were both highly recommended by some of you nice people! :o) One not mentioned that I remember reading (and enjoying, although I would never have tried it on my own) was Summer of my German Soldier. Then we got to watch the movie with Kristy McNichol and Esther Rolle. It's about a 12 year old Jewish girl who meets an escaped German prisoner of war, and ... I remember not having any problems getting into To Kill a Mockingbird, Summer of my German Soldier and Lord of the Flies when they were assigned in junior high, even though they were not books I would have picked up on my own. I'm listening to To Kill a Mockingbird again on audiobook and am ... ... know why ? One day I`m gonna want to steal a body and I don`t want any shit from you." Great stuff.
Another good one is Summer of My German Soldier - video much loved, but book still on `books to be read` shelf, along with another by Greene.

I saw Altman`s ... I'd have to agree with To Kill a Mockingbird and, another that I read in high school, Summer of my German Soldier by Bette Greene.
