Frances and Thelma are friends -- most of the time.

Thelma always seems to get Frances into trouble. When she tricks Frances into buying her tea set, it's the last straw. Can Frances show her that it's better to lose a bargain than lose a friend?

Ugh! That Thelma! I would totally be having a meeting with Thelma's mom if I were Mrs. Badger. ( )

As a child friendship can be a battlefield. We're all little sociopaths until we're 12 and then we're beset with hormones, so it takes a long time to learn what exactly is a healthy relationship.

Frances has a difficult time with Thelma. Her mother warns her that Thelma often gets the best of her, but Frances would rather hurt than be a friendless badger. Frances also needs to talk to someone about the deepest desire of her heart: a real china tea set with blue and white decoration. Unfortunately, Thelma is ready to pounce and she's armed with a plastic tea set with red flowers that's no sir not tacky.

How does Frances make the best of the situation? Which tea set will prevail? Is Thelma worth all of this drama? I loved this book growing up and it still teaches some valuable lessons. ( )

After being sold a used plastic tea set by her friend Thelma, Frances learns the value of said bargain and what it means to make a deal. I believe the books from this series are wonderful ways to get. students thinking about the value of kindness, truthfulness, and self - efficacy. CHaracters like Frances and her sister Gloria paved the way for such famous favorites like Peppa Pig.

Note: I think Peppa is a bossy jerk who expects everyone else to do her work for her. Just saying. ( )

Frances has been saving for a beautiful China tea set. Her "friend" Thelma tricks her into buying her old plastic tea set with all of her savings by saying that it is sturdier and better. Then Thelma goes and buys the China tea set herself. Thelma has a history of taking advantage of Frances and so Frances concocts a plan to get Thelma to trade her tea sets by saying that she left something in the old tea set.

Really cute story that really stands the test of time, it was originally published in 1970. My mom named me Frances after my grandmother and Frances the badger because she always thought it would be cool to have a story character that had your same name. Some people might see this as mean spirited or petty but I think it is a good lesson for children to learn that sometimes your friends take advantage of you.
