Les années d'illusion (1940)

A gifted but crippled surgeon hesitates between his ambition (and a cold-hearted medecine-woman)and provincial bliss (and a kick's buxom daughter). OK, it's cliché, silly, and moralistic. But at least characters have a veneer of realism, observations are accurate, and the book gives us a break from medical fiction written by non-doctors. ( )
