Townsend's Warbler is a biography describing an expedition John Townsend, a physician and naturalist, and Thomas Nuttall, a naturalist, took through the Oregon Country in search of new species of birds and plants. The expedition was led by trader-adventurer Nathanial Wyeth. Along the way, the group encountered hunger, hail storms, unbearable heat, dehydration, rushing river waters, a grizzly bear, etc. Ultimately, Townsend discovered a warbler bird species known still today as Townsend's Warbler. According to the author, "Townsend met only migrating members of the species and was unable to learn anything about them." Today, there is still much unknown about this particular bird because they have a preference for living in treetops. I would certainly recommend this book to a young naturalist with an adventurist spirit. ( )
