An excellent piece of research. Feeney provides a cogent and well-argued thesis which sheds new light on the accepted face of Seán MacEntee, that of the dour conservative reactionary, and presents a more complicated figure of a highly independent minded politician responding to the different challenges of his respective ministries. The rationale behind his policy stances are examined, assessed and critiqued as this is not hagiography but research. His role with his colleagues in Fianna Fáil is also analysed presenting an illuminating picture. I hope he writes again. ( )
