Sadako is a great chapter book for 3 grade and up. It is great for a twin text project using fiction and non-fiction. It is a little sad so make sure you prepare you students for that fact. Great for cultural education and the after math of the drop of the atom bomb. ( )

A real tear jerker. An excellent book for students to read. Geared more for the higher level grades of 4 and up.

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes is a story of a young girl's bravery and her will to survive. After finding out that she has the bomb disease Sadako works hard to fold 1000 paper cranes. As legend has it, whoever folds 1000 cranes will receive one wish. This is a great story tho share with a class. Students can learn about culture, strength, family, and origami. I would definitely like to use this book in my classroom, most likely for a whole class book.

Don't you remember that old story about the crane? Chizuko asked. It's supposed to live for a thousand years. If a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes, the gods will grant her wish and make her healthy again.
