Cassia is living in a dystopian society where the Society knows what is best for each citizen. No one is given a choice in what they eat, wear, vocation, or when they die. Cassia is presented with many choices that go against Society and what they believe. A cross between The Giver and Hunger Games. Little action but good thinking/questioning about what is really good the majority of society and does anyone have the right to tell you who and what you are. this book was so weird but intriguing. I really hope there is a sequel. I want to know what happens to Cass and Ky 3.5 stars! 3.5 stars There was something about this book that I found really intriguing. My first impression was that the author's writing was a bit choppy and didn't flow, but the story itself was still interesting enough to keep me reading. It was a sad yet moving story and I'm glad I took another chance on a YA book. Not a cliff-hanger ending, but am still looking forward to the next book in the series.
This first book in a planned trilogy feels just like that: a setup to a larger story rather than a stand-alone read. Having said that, we'll still be in line for book 2. [Cassia's] awakening and development are realistically portrayed, and supporting characters like Cassia's parents and her grandfather add depth to the story. Condie's enthralling and twisty dystopian plot is well served by her intriguing characters and fine writing. Detractors will legitimately cite less-than-subtle morality and similarities to The Giver, but this one's a fierce, unforgettable page-turner in its own right. The stunning clarity and attention to detail in Condie’s Big Brother–like world is a feat.

Cassia lives in a world were most decisions are made for her, including where she lives, the job she will have, the activities she is allowed to do, and the boy she will spend the rest of her life with. So when Cassia is "matched" with her best friend, Xander, she knows he is her right path in life, until Ky enters the scenario. Is Ky her true match? Set within the backdrop of a futuristic dystopia Condie's novel is entertaining and imaginative. While the writing quality is fine it was harder to rate the popularity quality of the book. YA readers will enjoy exploring Condie's mysterious new world but may grew weary of the repetitive theme of the love triangle.
