One of the best selling books of poetry in the last decade (by an independent publisher). Murrillo's poems feature influences from hip-hop and contemporary popular culture, but they inhabit the forms of the lyric: sestinas, sonnets, etc. Really fun poems, but also some serious notes as Murrillo reflects on his upbringing and various themes related to race. Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0981913148, Paperback)

Poetry. African American Studies. Latino/Latina Studies. "Up jumps the boogie. That's almost all one needs to say. Murillo is headbreakingly brilliant. I didn't have a favorite poet for this year: Now I do. But with this kind of verve and intelligence and ferocity Murillo just might be a favorite for many years to come."—Junot Diaz
