The first half of this work is a comprehensive narrative history of the county from its colonization up to the early twentieth century. Including: accounts of the establishment of all the townships, boroughs and historic landmarks in the region; churches; schools, public and private; lists of judges and lawyers; lists of physicians; newspapers and their publishers; members of Congress, county officials; and lists of participants from the county in the Civil and Spanish-American wars. The second half comprises the Family and Personal History section with close to 600 pages of genealogical information on native families, much of which was confirmed by members of the families themselves before the book went to print.
