It took me a long time to finish the book. I have to put it down to give way to three books before actually finishing it. I got bored. Maggie O'Neill's character is not interesting enough to make me want to find out what will happen to her involvement with Felicity Dow (her new boss, and owner of Enchantments slash witch). The novel tends to be descriptive. It was not until Maggie found out that she is a Clairsentients, or a fancy word for Empath that I found myself getting a bit pumped up. The introduction of N.I.G.H.T - Northeast Indiana Ghost Hunting and Tracking Society. Not the Ghost busting type but they said they promote a happy coexistence among the spirit world and our world, that was when I got really interested. But this series need serious fixing'. Tom Fielding and Marcus Quinn could be interesting if Alt can lose the mediocre traits. The magic and charms explanation are ok and the thought of having witches in a conservative town surely has a great potential. I will continue reading the series in the hopes of character and plot evolution. ( )

I loved the mystery and the magic aspects of this book. Overall, it was a good, quick read. I will be reading more of the series. Having said that, one problem, for me at least, was that being it was the first in a series, it gave a lot of background information. Normally, that would be fine but in this case it was background information on witchcraft. Most people interested in a book of this kind would probably know this information already and it kind of slowed down the pace of the book. Another problem, this time completely personal, was that the book has ghosts/spirits. I'm not a huge fan of haunting stories. ( )

This is a fun start to a mystery series with a hint of magic. This is based in a small town where everyone knows everyone and their business and centers around the local "eccentric" shop and it's new shopgirl, who is our heroine. I did get annoyed with her at times (hence the 3 starts) but the other characters make up for her shortcomings. It did make me want to read more of her books. ( )
