Two volumes, 10.5 x 7.25 inches approx., original full leather bindings in brown, gilt decoration to front boards, Volume I spine rubbed and titles faded, very good to front and back board, marbled endpapers, no inscriptions, 477 pages, black and white frontispiece of Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon, foxing, all edge marbled, Volume II matching binding but there is a loss to the spine of about 2 inches at the bottom, cracking at hinges, marbled endpapers, no inscriptions, 478- 964 pages. The New Edition is illustrated with fifty -six black and white portraits, text fully readable, some plates foxed. A reasonable set ideal for factual study or perhaps as a subject for sympathetic rebinding. A heavy set.
