What is Jesus worth to you?

It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...

But who do you know who lives like that? Do you?

In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his discipleā??then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.

Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment ā?? a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to

Thought provoking. Makes you ask some questions. ( )

Disturbing in a good way - it's thought provoking. This may not be the book for "beginner" Christians. It may be just the book for followers of Christ. ( )

A very good debunking of many commonly held views about Christian living and a rallying cry to a more Christ-centered life. The strongest arguments in the book are also its greatest weakness: Christians need to see themselves as ambassadors to an entire world full of unreached people, yet most of us tremble at the thought of even mentioning Jesus to a neighbor. If the only way to be a first-class Christian is to have a missionary mindset and a willingness to go anywhere, then most of us will probably settle for second-class and staying at home. ( )

While it has some useful perspectives on discipleship I was looking for useful practical application upon how to enable and help ppl along with myself be disciple makers. Mostly this was about cultural assumptions of materialism. It did have a bend towards a concept Iā€™ve heard in glorifying the 3rd world country church and the first world is the wrong. I believe we need both perspectives of not exaggerating either church society, this didnā€™t help for either side of conversation. ( )
