Names (Shemoth)*
Not sci-fi. but some might say parts of it qualilfy as fantasy. Idoes have a couple of supernatural episodes (which, outside of early Genesis are the exception rather than the rule in the HebrewBible (= Christian Old Testament.)
* Shemoth (Names) Hebre ... ... meant for a large general audience. Many readers may never have read anything like it (it's been compared to DeLillo's The Names), and so may have judged it by standards of plot and narrative style that the book was never intended to meet.
We'll see what Peter thinks.

Last week, I bought these:
Love for Lydia by H.E. Bates
The Names by Don DeLillo
The Debt to Pleasure by John Lanchaster
The Vacillations of Poppy Carew by Mary Wesley
Up and Down in the Dales by Garvase Ph ... ... All the books are 4 for £1. How can you pass that up?!?! I had 8 last week (including Love for Lydia by H.E. Bates, The Names by Don DeLillo and The Vacillations of Poppy Carew by Mary Wesley), and will be returning this weekend for more! :) ... was just too "precious" for me ... on the other hand, while Delillo does seem to have lost it, his earlier books like The Names, White Noise, and Ratner's Star are, IMHO, excellent ... I've noticed a lot of people here are kind of put off by post-modernism ...
