Understanding Cryptography: A Textbook for Students and Practitioners

This is a very nice introduction to the subject of cryptography. The key principles and problems are laid out clearly and the mathematical requisites are introduced without much fuss. It requires some technical and mathematical maturity on the part of the reader, but no particular background knowledge. ( )
