I loved this story! I loved learning more about Kaderin and getting to meet more of Nikolai's family. I loved how Kaderin began to feel when she met her true love. The Hie was an exciting look into the recreation of the Lore. I felt there was a bit more in depth back story to this one than the previous two and I enjoyed that as well. ( )

It's a guilty pleasure, but far better written than many of books that I give a try in this category. Delicious and fun, though I'm glad that the next book will move away from the Valkyries and let us learn new cultures in this world. ( )

Kaderin and Bastian are a match made in well Lore. Kaderin is a Valkyrie who has hated and killed vampires all her long life particularly since they caused the death of her two beloved blooded sisters. Bastian was turned into a vampire against his will and has lived in seclusion for centuries, barely taking enough blood to live. When they collide, life gives them a second chance to come back to life though both are too stubborn to realize they are meant to be together, Kaderin in particular. She has entered the Hie which is a competition held every few centuries in which ummortals compete for a chance at a big prize and this one in particular is coveted.Kaderin learns of a way to possibly save her sisters but knows there's a chance she may never have Bastian in her life. Having realized she does love him, she's caught between a rock & a hard place. Full of laughter, adventure and steamy scenes, this book was hard to put down. When Bastian learns that Kaderin is fated to die on a certain night, he does everything he can to keep her safe. Kaderin however has other ideas that could not only get her killed but keep her from being reunited with her sisters. When tragedy strikes, it's up to Bastian to choose what to do & knows he's Kaderin's only chance at possibly being reunited with her sisters while risking the chance to never see her again. Will he be able to make the difficult choice? Only time will tell. ( )

3.7-It started out exciting with a cold emotionless immortal female entering a race around the world to collect various items before the rest of the teams. Very Amazing Race like, except for the maiming, mangling and eventual killing part. She has not felt anything, no emotions since she was cursed ages ago. Then this vampire her sworn enemy walks into her life and dang it, she has a feeling. Sebastian, the vampire, has been cold the few decades himself. He hates being what he is, does not want to live till he meets this nasty cold woman and tries to get her to kill him. But what happens ? He get's a stirring he hasn't felt since turning. He chases her, she runs from him, they argue, battle wits and physically grapple through the race. He wants to know her she wants to for get him. Both lives hang in the balance and then it get complicated. There are gods, demons, witches, fey, and 'others' a many. LOL
A nice fast paced read with a wonderfully smart character, Sebastian. The ending was a total cliffhanger so I had to rush and start book 4 right way. Sneaky author. : ) ( )

I love how this series doesn't simply take place one right after the other. The stories told in each of these books overlaps with the others, sometimes telling part of the same event from different points of view. The Hie competition that was so much a part of this book was also the beginning of Mari and Bowen's story. It's fascinating and adds so many layers to what are already fantastic books.

Book description
In this next installment in the Immortals After Dark Series, USA Today Bestselling author Kresley Cole delivers a scorching tale about a forbidding vampire who lives in the shadows and the beautiful assassin who hunts him there.

A soldier weary of life . . .
Centuries ago, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire – a nightmare in his mind – against his will. Burdened with hatred and alone for ages, he sees little reason to live. Until an exquisite, fey creature comes to kill him, inadvertently saving him instead.

A Valkyrie assassin dispatched to destroy him . . .
When Kaderin the Cold Hearted lost her two beloved sisters to a vampire attack long ago, a benevolent force deadened her sorrow – accidentally extinguishing all of her emotions. Yet whenever she encounters Sebastian, her feelings – particularly lust – emerge multiplied. For the first time, she's unable to complete a kill.

Become competitors in a legendary hunt.
The prize of the month-long contest is powerful enough to change history, and Kaderin will do anything to win it for her sisters. Wanting only to win her, forever, Sebastian competes as well, taking every opportunity – as they travel to ancient tombs and through catacombs, seeking relics around the world – to use her new feelings to seduce her. But when forced to choose between the vampire she's falling for and reuniting her family, how can Kaderin live without either?
