This seemed like more of a short story and it was a cute one. When it ended though, it seemed like it was just the beginning! Maybe it's a real book somewhere, but this was the story that I came across. Nice easy read!  ( )

Stephanie Lowe purchases the house of Ivan Rasmussen. The house immediately begins to fall apart even though Ivan says that it was in good shape. Stephanie fills in for her cousin by working a week for Ivan and in exchange her cousin will make sure to get the plumbing in the house fixed. With several twists and turns Stephanie and Ivan fall in love and get married. ( )

Funny set of circumstances leads to love & mystery. Lady takes the place of a cook on a small cruise boat. She can't cook, murder occurs & she falls in love with the captain. Easy to follow & yet intriguing. ( )

Running too short on money to afford repairs on her newly acquired home, Stephanie Lowe’s cousin Lucy gave her an alternative, cooking on the pirate ship ‘Savage’ for a new toilet. Watching his new cook roll down the hill caught his attention, Ivan Rasmussen just didn’t know how much attention he would have to give this addition to his crew till his favorite ghost, Tess Rasmussen started showing her presence nearly everywhere they went.

This book is a funny, cute, wonderful, light hearted, quick read. Originally published as ‘Ivan Takes a Wife’ back in 1989, but even today, who would not laugh out loud at orange hair. Touching when it needs to be, the love affair is slow to grow but so much fun and then the real fun is revealed. ( )

I sped through another quickie by Janet Evanovich. She'd better start writing those again, because I've only got a few left to read. Love Overboard was a fun one. It follows the same formula, but it had a good plot.

Stephanie is a former cop who takes on the roll of cook for a week long cruise on a sailing ship. She's just there for the week and she meets Ivan, the captain. He's everything a romance novel man should be, good looking, charming, funny, helpful, etc. . . I'm sure there were bulging biceps as well.

Ivan falls in love quite quickly and is determined to keep Stephanie in his life long after she leaves the ship. It's got a little bit of a ghost story, some wacky friends, and a sweet romance. Again, if you need a quick read, pick up any of the Janet Evanovich romances. Lots of fun. ( )

First words
Ivan Rasmussen swirled the last of his coffee around the bottom of his muc, looked past the prow of his ship to the sloping green lawn of Camden Harbor Prak, and wondered for the hundredth time in the past two hours what the devil had happened to his cook, Lucy. She was never late. Until now. Now she was beyond late, and because she was his friend as well as his cook, he was worried.

Book description
Stephanie Lowe decides Maine schooner captain and pirate descendent Ivan Rasmussen deserves to be called Ivan the Terrible. The house she just bought from him is falling apart and possibly haunted. He complains about her fish-eye stew and burnt chocolate chip cookies. He makes fun of her hair after she's had to comb it while using a toaster as a mirror. And on top of all that, he has the nerve to be charming, handsome and overboard in love with her. This is one pirate captain who is determined to acquire the treasure of a lifetime.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0060598840, Mass Market Paperback)

Dear Reader:

In a previous life, before the time of Plum, I wrote twelve short romance novels. Red-hot screwball comedies, each and every one of them. Nine of these stories were originally published by the Loveswept line between the years 1988 and 1992. All went out-of-print immediately and then could be found only at used bookstores and yard sales.

I'm excited to tell you that those nine stories are now being re-released by HarperCollins. Love Overboard is second in the lineup, and it's presented here in almost original form. I've done only minor editing to correct some embarrassing bloopers missed the first time around. And I changed the title because I thought the original title (Ivan Takes a Wife) was boring!

Love Overboard is a romantic tale about a handsome ship's captain; a wary wench from Jersey City; a hundred-year-old, two-masted schooner; and an entire town of shoemakers. There's some getting naked, some blueberry pie, more getting naked, and at the end . . . Okay, I won't tell you about the end, but it's really good and it'll make you feel happy.

I took my family on the road trip from heck to research this book. When we finally got to Maine it was all worthwhile because we fell in love with the boats and the people who sailed them.

Enjoy!
