Approximately 1.5 hours of fun (if you take a break in the middle to eat a snack). ( )

so, all of the guys in this edition are white, have light-colored hair cut in similar styles, AND are wearing black ringer tees with random numbers on them? wait, which one's scott, again?

i like what they did with this part of the story in the movie, so it was even more disappointing to see that the original was sort of excessively drawn out and narratively all over the place. the characters even make a few meta comments about how long it's taking for them to get through what they are supposed to get through ("It's almost 3:30 and we've been here for a quarter of this book.") i also couldn't figure out the timeline for when all of these people were supposed to be dating each other. so i like this one the least so far.

i can't help it, though, that "you're incorrigible" joke, hokey as it is, gets me every time. ( )

my feelings are still sort of complicated, but i definitely laughed my tits off through most of this book. improvement! ( )

Complicated pasts make for more interesting characters and less clear-cut sides. ( )

About as good as the others. Scott and Ramona get into and out of more trouble as we watch these two grow closer together. ( )

For all of its oddities and mystical abilities, the world of Scott Pilgrim is a complex, three-dimensional one with something for almost everyone. I’m thrilled to see O’Malley continue improving his skill just as Scott continues growing up in front of us.
