surprisingly sweet and sad. i love how kid's books nowadays tackle all kinds of time periods without talking down or condescending - i guess you've always been able to find books like that, or for a long while now, but still, i feel like i find more and more books like that all the time. anyhow, good and sweet and sad. makes me want to learn more - and i liked how those who know a little about the black plague will recognize the seemingly innoucuous ring-around-the-rosy scene, or the doctor's mask that one nowadays associates more with italian carnival. so: very good and definitely recommended. ( )
