Marketing is an enormous field with a diverse number of career possibilities to choose. Marketing penetrates every niche where there is a product or service to sell, making consumers aware of the options available. Within the marketing industry, marketers can work in public relations, global marketing, retail and direct sales. Within industries, marketers can work in a variety of positions including account service manager, researcher, exporter and sales representative. Though a degree in marketing is an asset, anyone with an interest in the field or some expertise in a product area could get started in a marketing career.

Careers in Marketing provides a brief history of marketing as a career and describes how the techniques have changed over time. The authors explain the early efforts of marketers in the 1920s and 1930s, and how marketing has changed this century with the arrival of the Internet and greater access to global marketplaces.

The book examines the sectors for marketing: research, product development, advertising, direct sales, customer service, education, management and global marketing and it also provides a summary of the industry. The authors provide examples of various entry-level careers, an example of a higher level career and then provide an outlook for that industry. Each chapter provides a basic introduction and includes resources for further research.

Careers in Marketing provides a brief introduction to the field, possibly more useful to a person just considering the field, rather than an experienced professional.
