If you take a step back from it, this is a preposterous love story about two characters who should never get together, burdened the the story of a sick child and a troubled neighbor. But the cast pulls it all off and you can't help but being caught up in it and enjoy it all the way through. But will this marriage last?
An obsessive-compulsive misanthrope learns to be slightly less horrible.

Harmless. There are some bits of memorable dialog here and there that manage to make it more than just a 90's artifact.

Overall pretty entertaining, though all of the characters were annoying at times.
Jack Nicholson gives a show-stopping performance as Melvin Udall, an obessive-compulsive novelist with Manhattan's meanest mouth. But when his neighbor Simon is hospitalized, Melvin is forced to babysit Simon's dog. And that unexpected act of kindness--along with waitress Carol Connelly---helps put Melvin back in the human race.
