4267 We Shall March Again, by Gerhard Kramer Translated from the German by Anthony G. Powell (read 30 Jan 2007) Gerhard Weinberg in his magisterial A World at Arms (read 31 Dec 2006 and my Book of the Year for 2006) said this book "is a semi-fictional account which captures the atmosphere of the German Army extraordinarily well." So I read it. It was published in 1955 in English and tells of the time of Victor Veltin (a pseudonym, I think, of the author) while in the German Army from 1939 to show more 1945. He is anti-Hitler, but never does anything about it and carries out all his assignments in the German Army--although he was never required to do some of the evil things which Germans did in the war. The book is very readable and probably is authentically based on the author's time in the war. show less
