Lightweight but enjoyable little read.
This is a social history of the Duchesses. They were, indeed, the ultimate British express passenger steam loco. It's not a technical book – those are available – and it's almost pure text rather than photos or diagrams. What it is is a social history of the Duchesses, and particularly their life after withdrawal and through preservation and restoration. Unusually, these passed through Butlin's rather than Barry and that's well covered.
