5668. A Vine Transplanted Dubuque Franciscans in Latin America 1965-2015, by Pat Farrell, OSF (read 11 Jan 2020) This is an account of the Dubuque Franciscans' work, beginning in 1965, in Latin America. The account of their determined efforts to help poor people in Chile and in Central America fills one with admiration as they encountered poverty, violence, and people needing help in those countries. The effort in Chile has ended but they did much good there. The effort in Central America show more continues despite the tough conditions there. I know Sister Janet May and knew that she at times led students from Briar Cliff University to help on projects in Honduras, so reading the mention of that effort in the book made it more meaningful to me. An inspiring book. show less
