It was okay, well written, but sparse in areas. It seemed to play off the "needy" aspect quite strongly at first, to the point that I almost put it down, then let up as it got more into his career. It wasn't nearly as comprehensive as the other biography I read by Dave Itzkoff. I think this was written as quickly as possible after Robin Williams passed away, it makes no mention of his misdiagnosis of Parkinson's disease. The impression I got is the material was sourced via the media, which show more isn't a problem, but seemed to lack a personal touch. It did contain one aspect that was missing from Dave Itzkoff's biography and that was Robin's love of video games. If you want a quick rundown, then this book is fine. If you want a more in-depth look, then Itzkoff's book is the way to go. show less
I love Robin Williams and always will. This is a review of this book and the person who compiled it. I’ll not call her an author as this is merely a compilation of other already-public information about Williams. The book is full of stumbling blocks (i.e. the connective tissue the author created to link other people’s writings and quotes).
Perhaps I can help the author a bit by letting her know that Mandy Patinkin is a man and the phrase, “in an interview with Reddit” makes no sense. show more In addition the name of the movie is, “Too Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar”.
Also, when everyone you quote in your chapter about Williams’s time at Juilliard refers to it as Juilliard, maybe reconsider constantly referring to it as “The Juilliard” yourself. Juilliard is like Cher or Madonna, it only needs one name and every one knows who you are referring to. I have to ask, was it hard to type this book from under that rock? show less

Fascinating subject matter - hence my eagerness to read.
However, although I learned some things I hadn’t known before I didn’t feel the author was particularly qualified to give me any great insights into the man behind the image. In fact, I came away feeling the whole thing had been rushed out in the wake of his death, and that given enough time and internet searching I could have produced as much myself. [Especially the pages of Twitter tributes and eulogies at the beginning and the show more list of his jokes at the end - valid inclusions yes, but not exactly hard to come by]
There was a lot of other ‘filler’ information throughout, such as synopses of movies and reviews.
The style was annoying - a lot of phrase repetition, sometimes even within the same page.
Even given all this, it was an interesting read. show less

Robin was This book was a okey description about his life, but it felt more like a Wikipedia article than a memorable book about robin - an amazing and fantastic genius, quick with jokes and funny replies. The author also included a LOT of movie descriptions! Frankly, the book was quite boring, which is sad since robin was so amazing, and had an interesting story :/
