A great introduction and summary to some of the strengths and limitations of the increased focus on using data uncritically to automate decision making. Shows a great breadth of thought and presents complex challenges in accessible ways.

This is an important, but eminently readable book. AI systems are increasingly making decisions in all areas of our lives. But, they are "made by humans" and if not carefully built include all the faults, foibles and biases of their data and makers. Ellen Broad discusses how these systems come to be made, what can go wrong, and how we need to be careful, as individuals, but more importantly as a society, that we keep a close watch and take action to keep these systems honest and ethical.
