Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy: The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating by M.D. Walter C. Willett
For anyone who ever wondered how diet affects their long-term health. Willett is the link between medicine and bolstering your health so you minimize medical intervention. In other words, learn how your food (and also fitness) choices can help you reduce both incidence and severity of chronic disease.
Willett offers no nonsense, in depth analyses into each component of our diet and how it impacts the integrity of our system (mind and body). There is no super nutrient, and we should stop show more looking for one, is also made clear. The bottom line is that a varied diet, much in the Mediterranean fashion but appropriated to your region's bounty, along with lifelong weight management, is a guarantee that you have done your part to stay healthy. show less

I am allergic to the word "diet" but wanted to read something about the current state of knowledge about nutrition, such as it is.
This book was recommended by a nutritionist, and it was a very good read—even-handed and supported with carefully selected scientific evidence.

Thinfluence: Thin-flu-ence (noun) the powerful and surprising effect friends, family, work, and environment have on weight by Walter C. Willett
Very interesting to read, full of great information, which seems so obvious when you read it, but not anything I've ever really thought about. But now that I have read it, it makes so much sense that my family, friends, co-workers, and my home or other environments have an effect on me, my mood, my perception, my habits, esp eating habits, and the amount of exercise I get.
The book is structured in such a way that each chapter deals with one influencer on your life, but each chapter builds on show more previous ones. show less
