I absolutely loved loved loved this book. Watching Elise come back and come into her own, and also do whatever it takes while apologizing for nothing and kicking butt, was awesome. I enjoyed seeing a powerful woman taking control, but not just that. She learned that sometimes, when you find someone you can depend on, it is ok to lean into them every once in a while. Even though it didn't really work out for her and Van, at least she understood going in he was a Mr. Right Now, and she never show more expected him to be Mr. Right. When she finally figured things out for herself, she was able to let go of control long enough to let someone balance her out, but she never lost herself. I think the life lessons in this book, although it's meant to be entertaining, are very important. I love when a book gives me something deeper to look at, as this one did. I will be on the lookout for more of this series. Bravo! show less

General: I have to admit I was afraid to read it, I don’t like that it switched characters. I love multi character series but after spending 1 and 2 with the same set I was unprepared for the shift. That out of the way it didn’t hurt the series at all! It took me a little bit to get into the story due to it but it was a fantastic show more read once the characters won me over. Also, I didn’t love Julie so those things lead to my rating. As well as my overall distaste for cliffhangers. I do think it’s a writing pattern in this series though so I will have to get used to it since the writing is great.

I enjoyed the shift to vampires. As with the characters I was apprehensive because I chose the series based on the paranormal element, but was easily won over since we’ve known Julie throughout the journey. The story had a lot of fantastic tension in it and fantastic supporting characters.

Characters: Julie- I don’t have a lot of positives to go with Julie. She felt identical to Anna and to me that felt like a miss- almost like I was reading about the same female except for the overall powers and a few smaller reactions the two females were interchangeable to me in so many ways.

Torch: Torch was the savior in this book. I loved that he was dual race, allowing him to be fascinating in so many. He too mirrored the previous boys as well and that was a bit of a problem for me. I know al characters are similar somewhere but his alpha side, while sexy as hell, definitely mirrored Eli’s strongly. His passion for everything was evident the whole time and I loved that about him even more than the sexy alpha male part.

General: Not as strong as the first book in the series this one was still an entertaining read but a little upsetting because characters did not behave how they were set up to be in the first novel as well as I feel a little cheated we did not see anything during the year. But other things are done wonderfully. The storyline didn’t show more stop and stick on one thing. It continued to progress and give us more and more information on both the world and the characters in it. The excitement with Dan really kept me page turning and I was so happy with it.

Characters: Anna- Anna really was just a step of in terms of change. Still an entertaining and fun character but we see more behind the scenes. Her reactions in the first book seem less real in comparison to this one. Her strength as a character is tested and added too wonderfully as she faces the challenges in being Queen. I was quite pleased she made a choice in this book as well.

Eli: I still love Eli but in this book he came across very different and I think my love for him is coming from the first of the series. He was a real ass in this book on top of everything else. At first I thought it might be because of the issue with the love triangle but then I began to think maybe we just hadn’t seen all there was of him in the first novel. All leading men have issues and I think this must be his.

Nykoda- I left Nykoda out of my first review so people reading wouldn’t realize who was in the love triangle as it’s completely unadvertised in the plot. Nykoda was a strong character, but didn’t feel right in this book either. I can’ put my finger on why but he wasn’t as enjoyable as he was in the first novel.

General: Dark and sexy this book has it all. I wanted to read this to begin with because I love nephilim things and a unique twist to the nephilim concept had me page turning quicker than expected. I found the plot itself entertaining but I’ve read so many “person finds out they’re royalty of a race” that this one didn’t show more offer anything terribly different and led me to a non 5 star review. The romance in the book felt equally played between the characters in the live triangle and I’m not a fan of threesome romances so it left me feeling like there was not going to be a clear resolution at some point in the series.

Characters: Anna- Anna was a fun heroine. She went from shy, scared female to a spunky kick ass and take names warrior. She didn’t stand out anymore than any other heroine in this scenario and I would have liked for a little something different to match with the unique take on the group of beings.

Eli- I loved Eli. For me he was what made the novel. Not only did he ooze sex appeal and alpha male, but he seemed to truly care for Anna. His interactions with her were chemistry filled it seemed on his end and very well crafted to show a fantastic male.
